Darren Moore will be given the resources he needs next season, says co-owner Carol Shanahan

Port Vale co-owner Carol Shanahan has backed manager Darren Moore despite Port Vale's relegation from League One.

Defeat at Bolton on Saturday means the Valiants will be back in League Two next season, two years after promotion.

Since Moore took control in February, Vale have won twice in 16 games, including a current run of four losses.

Shanahan told the club websiteexternal-link that Moore, 49, is "the right person to lead our development in terms of football operations".

She added: "Despite our relegation, we will ensure he and his team are given the resources needed to carry that out this summer and beyond.

"I know Darren shares my view that pride in the badge should be non-negotiable when it comes to Port Vale, and together we're absolutely determined to bring success back to this club."

Former Sheffield Wednesday boss Moore was appointed manager on 13 February on a five-and-a-half-year contract, two weeks after being sacked by Huddersfield Town.

    You have give the guy at least one transfer window but there’s a massive job ahead. We lost our L1 status because we don’t score enough goals and let too many in. Had we retained more of our promotion team in the Summer we’d have been ok but DF et al had other ideas.

    Shrewsbury Town fan here.

    Only 9 points from 14 games since Darren Moore's appointment as manager on a five-and-a-half-year contract, time will tell but i doubt that he'll be Port Vale's manager for that length of time unless results dramatically improve.

    Good luck for next season Vale fans, us Shrews fans will miss you.

    Sorry to see you go down, hoping that Cambridge don’t follow you this season, we dodged a bullet last season and, if Posh do us a favour on Tuesday, we’ll do it again but there’s only so many times results elsewhere help us. Good luck next season!

    I've really enjoyed our time in Div 1 and that has been mostly to do with so many decent clubs and fans. They have all made us feel so welcome and like we actually belong - even if it was only for 2 seasons

      L1 is our normal level. We've spent most of our history there. The key thing now is to stop the rot and return asap.

    DM inherited a poor team deep in relegation trounle and without the opportunity to sign any new players. We will be able to judge when he has the chance to make improvements. A good summer transfer window is vital.

    What concerns me about Darren Moore is how well he & his management team knows the lower leagues. There’s no big budget here to be had unlike at Wednesday & Huddersfield.

    There's been loads of criticism of Darren Moore since he was appointed, most of it from non-Vale fans. They may or may not be right but we will only find out when he's had chance to improve the squad which shouldn't be difficult as it's abysmal. We've been saying all season there's no full backs / wing backs and no strikers (well, ones that can score).

    Interesting comment by the owner, she did not fund the team close season nor the windows being probably the only side who did not have a striker starting in any of the games. Interesting to see how they get on next season.
