Derby are five points behind leaders Portsmouth in League One, but they should be expected to cut that gap to two when they travel to Sixfields Stadium to face Northampton, who lie comfortably in mid-table without any realistic chances of promotion or relegation.
The Rams have won each of their last four in the league, including a vitally important 1-0 victory over fellow automatic promotion rivals Bolton last time out, and Paul Warne’s men thoroughly enjoyed the reverse fixture in October - with a brace from Max Bird helping Derby to a comfortable 4-0 victory.
This could be another difficult day for the Cobblers, who are winless in their last five and lost both of their most recent league outings to nil, while only the current bottom three - Fleetwood, Port Vale and Carlisle - have conceded more goals in the division than Northampton’s 60.
Derby have won three of their last four to nil and they also boast the third strongest defence in the league. An extension to their winning streak should be achievable and another clean sheet could also be on the cards.

Clyde are mounting a late bid for survival, with three wins from their last five moving them to within three points of safety.
This run includes an unbelievable 6-1 thumping of league leaders Stenhousemuir away from home, and they could claim another three points against Spartans, who are winless in four.
Clyde’s last four league appearances have featured both sides finding the back of the net, while the same can be said for five of Spartans’ last six.
So there may be at least something to cheer about for the away side in what could be another winless outing.
