Ex-Schalke, Union Berlin and Inglostadt boss emerges as candidate for Barnsley

Barnsley remain in the hunt for a new permanent manager to replace Daniel Stendel.

The Championship strugglers currently have Adam Murray in caretaker charge and he has taken their last two games.

Murray remains the of bookies’ favourite for the full-time role, whilst names such as Neil Redfearn, Jan Siewert and Steve Cherundolo remain in the running.

A new name to emerge is the German boss Jens Keller, who is currently 7/1 on SkyBet.

Keller, who is 48 years-old, has been available since he was sacked by Inglostadt in April.

He spent his playing career in Germany with spells with the likes of Stuttgart, Wolfsburg, Koln and Eintracht Frankfurt as a defender.

He got his first taste of management in 2010 with a short stint at Stuttgart before moving to Schalke’s coaching set-up. In December 2012, Keller was promoted from his position as Under-17’s coach to become the first team manager.

Keller’s spell at the helm at the Veltins Arena lasted for two years and he had a win percentage of 46.7%.

He parted company with Schalke in October 2014 and got back into the dugout two years later in the second division with Union Berlin.

Keller spent a season-and-a-half with Union Berlin and went onto manage Inglostadt afterwards.

He is now a contender for Barnsley who may go down the German route again to choose their replacement for Stendel. They did say they were going for a left-field option.
