Burton Albion sign former Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper

Burton Albion have signed goalkeeper Ben Garratt.

The 25-year-old stopper has signed a contract with the Brewers until January, as announced by their official club website today.

Garratt has been in the hunt for a new club since leaving League Two side Crewe Alexandra at the end of last season.

He has spent time training at Shrewsbury Town, Bury, Blackburn Rovers and Port Vale over the summer and has finally found a new home with third tier outfit Burton now.

Garratt, who is a former England Under-19 international, is a product of the Crewe academy and went onto make 246 appearances for their first team.

He has spoken to Burton’s official club website after his move: “It’s all come about quite quickly, but I’m just delighted to be here and I can’t wait to get started. I’ve had two full days training with the lads, and they’ve been brilliant and very welcoming.”

“I was fortunate enough to get into Crewe’s team in League One, and played half of my games (in my career) in this league. Hopefully I’ll be able to help the team with those experiences. I’m ready for a new chapter in my career.”

The Brewers boss Nigel Clough has said: “I think it’s ideal for Ben and for us – we’re delighted to get him in. We wanted some experienced cover in the goalkeeping department and Ben provides that.”

“Stephen Bywater has missed a few games and won’t be with us for Fleetwood, and also with Callum Hawkins’ injury and Jack Livesey not having that first-team experience.”
