Rangers loanee remains unused again as Pompey win at Doncaster Rovers

Rangers defender Ross McCrorie was again an unused substitute for loan club Portsmouth as they won 2-1 at Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

The 21-year-old joined Pompey on a season-long loan deal in July to gain some first team experience with Rangers having a recall clause included should the player not benefit from the arrangement.

Ahead of Portsmouth’s fixture in South Yorkshire yesterday, The Scottish Sun reported that no contact had been made between the two clubs with McCrorie having been given just eight minutes of football in Pompey’s last three fixtures. It was to be another frustrating afternoon for the youngster with McCrorie left on the bench for a second consecutive match as Portsmouth chalked up a 2-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers thanks to goals from Gareth Evans and Ellis Harrison.

McCrorie has not started a match for Portsmouth since they drew 1-1 at Blackpool in August. The youngster has been starved of opportunities in his time at Fratton Park so far and Rangers boss Steven Gerrard could be concerned by the player’s lack of involvement.

The defender has almost 100 senior appearances under his belt which includes 55 outings for his parent club in which he has scored two goals. He was fielded by Rangers on 31 occasions last season and a decision may need to be made on whether he would be given more game time back at Ibrox.
