Barnsley keen on move for Hull City defender

Barnsley are keen on a move for Hull City defender Lewis Ritson, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke on Twitter.

The Tykes want to sign the youngster on a permanent deal whereas the Tigers are only willing to sanction a loan for him.

Ritson is likely to leave the KCOM Stadium on loan before the transfer deadline tomorrow. Other Hull players like Brandon Fleming, Max Sheaf and Callum Burton may also get Football League or National League loans for more first-team experience.

Barnsley may lose defender Ethan Pinnock to Championship side Brentford over the next 24 hours or so. Therefore, the League One outfit are looking for potential options such as Ritson.

Ritson, who is 20 years-old, is highly-rated by Hull and has been on their bench on a few occasions this season. He is key player for their Under-23’s and has impressed in this campaign.

He trains with the first-team regularly and was taken on their pre-season tour in Portugal last summer.

Ritson joined his home-town club at the age of 16 and rose through the youth ranks at the KCOM Stadium. He has been linked with loan moves to the likes of Scunthorpe United and Port Vale over recent months.

A loan move to Barnsley would be beneficial to him as he would gain some much needed senior experience. Hull have seen the likes of Dan Batty and Rob McKenzie break into their first-team this season, could Ritson do it next season?
