Oldham Athletic are close to appointing Pete Wild as the new permanent manager, according to the Daily Mail.

Oldham Athletic are close to appointing Pete Wild as new permanent manager, following impressive record as caretaker manager.

Pete Wild was appointed Oldham Athletic’s caretaker manager on 27 December, after the club sacked Frankie Bunn.

A 6-0 defeat at Carlisle United proved to be the final straw for Frankie Bunn, but Pete Wild said he always believed Oldham’s players were capable of better.

He has made an unbeaten start to management, with the FA Cup win his third straight victory after wins against Port Vale and Notts County lifted Oldham to 10th in League Two.

Oldham Athletic chairman Abdallah Lemsagam told the Daily Mail: “I’m going to have a talk with him and we will take the best decision for the club.”

“If he’s ready to take charge of the team in the fourth round, we’re ready for it – he’s already shown anything is possible.”

Talking about Latics beating Premiership side Fulham, Abdallah Lemsagam added: “This is one of my best moments in football, of course.”

‘I’ve been involved in many big deals, but I’m used to losing money now!”

“It’s cost me lot more than I thought to run the club – but this makes up for everything. I have congratulated the players because they deserve it. They have made the club proud.”

“The last year has been more than tough. But when you win a game like that, it’s not about money. Pride doesn’t cost you money.”

“This is something special – money cannot buy you this feeling.”
